On 9-11 December 2009, the Argentine Intensive Horticulture Group (GHIA Group) organised a horticultural meeting focused on the exchange of experiences and training in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The event was the first of its kind in this sector to be staged in the extreme south of Argentina, and it attracted horticultural technicians and advisors from Corrientes, Salta, Santa Fe, Mendoza, La Plata and Mar de Plata.

The enormous distances between regions in the Argentine horticultural sector are gradually disappearing thanks to the initiatives undertaken by the GHIA Group in the last three years. The Argentine Intensive Horticulture Group has organised a number of field days, trial symposiums and exchange meetings. These events seek to foster the transmission of knowledge, and they will surely redound to the benefit of quality and production levels.
Over the course of the three horticultural days, technicians discussed the future of the horticultural sector in their various regions and exchanged ideas about approaches to specific production and fertilisation problems, evaluation of the results of different varieties and the development of appropriate treatment for pests and diseases.
On the opening day, the engineers Mr. Mariano Ramirez and Mr. Javier Brenner de Yara presented the results of the trials conducted on the estate of Origen Natural SRL in La Plata. Ms. Lorena Zubizarreta, an Agricultural Engineer at Syngenta, took the opportunity to announce the launch of two new horticultural insecticide products for 2010, through which Syngenta will consolidate its position in the agrochemical product sector in Argentina.

Syngenta also presented the successful results achieved in the trials conducted by Mr. Ariel Zitti, in which Switch and Proclaim were applied to greenhouse tomatoes. For his part, Mr. Miguel Flores recounted his experience with the application of Amístar Top to open field tomatoes in North-West Argentina, while Mr. Joaquin Otero from Rogers presented the results of trials conducted with the Naty tomato variety in La Plata.
The GHIA GROUP also organised a visit to the factory of Ipesa / Río Chico SA in Río Grande, which is the main factory for polyethylene processing in Argentina.
The GHIA Group (Argentine Intensive Horticulture Group) is a group of leading companies which specialise in the vegetable industry, namely Syngenta Seeds, Syngenta Agro, Yara (vegetable nutrition), IPESA (plastics for agriculture) and Netafim (irrigation systems).
