Almería: Syngenta Seeds presents its latest California pepper varieties for 2010

Guainos, Valarena and Gallega yield firmer fruits, which are more resistant to cracking and remain in optimum condition on the plant for longer

On 14 January, Syngenta Seeds held an open doors day for growers and technicians in El Ejido, Spain, in order to present its latest innovative developments in California peppers.

The three new varieties presented for 2010 are Guainos, Valarena and Gallega, and they will be commercialised from the beginning of the summer onwards; the Gallega variety appeared in the market last year and was very well received: “We sold all that we grew and the results were excellent,” observed José Ferre, a commercial representative for Syngenta Seeds in Almería. “With these three varieties we offer a solution to the problems experienced with other varieties, above all with respect to fruit firmness, resistance to cracking and problems related with the fruit remaining in optimum condition on the plant.”

Guainos is intended for early crops, to be sown in the period from 1 to 15 July, Valarena for standing crops, to be sown from mid to late July, and Gallega for later crops, to be sown in August.

The press said:
